These
services aim to prevent the spread of HIV in
the community through raising awareness of HIV
and AIDS issues. This area of our work entails
volunteers and/or staff visiting schools, colleges,
youth groups and workplaces, where we give talks
and hold interactive HIV/AIDS awareness sessions.
If your school or organisation requires a talk
or any general information, please contact
the Development worker at the Fightback
Trust. We also have a wide range of up to date
publications on many aspects of HIV and AIDS
issues, that are available to anyone who may
need information.
Buddy/Befriending
Services
Through
this scheme, we offer one to one support to
people at any stage of HIV infection. A Buddy
or Befriender offers practical help and friendship,
often for months or years so as to enable people
living with HIV and AIDS to continue to run
their lives in the way that they wish.
Complimentary
Therapies
We
offer an increasing range of complimentary therapies
including massage, aromatherapy, reflexology,
reiki healing and shiatsu. These therapies are
provided either at the Fightback Trust, or in
the home, and are free of charge. They aim to
promote a sense of well being within the individual
and help to reduce stress levels. If a person
should require a therapy that we do not currently
provide, we will do our best to contact a therapist
and arrange a session.
Counselling
We
have a qualified counsellor operating from the
Fightback Trust on a regular basis, who enables
people living with HIV and AIDS, their partners,
friends and families to share their hopes and
anxieties.
Drop
In
Our
Drop In is open during our office hours and
we welcome people living with or directly affected
by HIV and AIDS to come and enjoy each other's
company in a relaxing, safe, supportive environment.
We also have a wide range of publications that
provide up to date information on treatment
issues, welfare and housing advice.
Helpline
The
Helpline is available during office hours and
also on Thursday evenings between 7:00pm and
9:00pm. At other times, there is an ansaphone
service which we will respond to promptly. Our
volunteers are able to offer a confidential
listening and referral service as well as up
to date information. All calls are treated in
the STRICTEST
CONFIDENCE.
Mary
Magdelene Fund
This
is our hardship fund which is designed to provide
financial assistance to people living with HIV
and AIDS. Grants are available to help people
with the cost of fuel bills, household items
and fares to and from respite care breaks. Please
note: All applications must come through a professional
referring party.
Respite
Care Breaks
The
Fightback Trust can arrange respite care breaks
for people living with HIV and AIDS, in conjunction
with Suffolk Health Authority. This service
aims to provide short breaks for individuals
who would benefit from spending time in a safe
supportive environment, with others in a similar
situation to themselves. Respite care breaks
are available for people who need to convalesce,
and to maintain health if they are well.
If you ar
living with or directly affected by HIV and AIDS,
and wish to access the above services, please
contact our Development
worker at the Fightback Trust.
